For anyone who has followed motorcycle racing for
any length of time, or who regulalry watches World Superbikes on
the BBC - Steve will be a familiar figure. We are proud to be associated
with one of the all time greats of British motorcycle racing.
About
Steve
After beginning his motorcycle racing
career at the age of 14, Steve went on to win both British 500 and
Superbike titles. He was also Barry Sheene's team mate in the World
Championship GP500 class, finishing 5th in 1977.
Steve retired from racing on two wheels in 1986,
and went on to sucessfully manage the Loctite Yamaha team. The team
was to win 3 British titles.
Steve returned to the track to race trucks. He finally
retired from racing, to become a full time commentator for the BBC,
after winning 5 British and 5 European titles.
Noted for his sense of humour and practical joking,
Steve is one of the real characters of the sport. He has also been
involved in other odd speeding activities, notably setting a World
reversing record in a Honda powered Caterham 7 at 85mph!
Who better to back the Old Fart's challenge this
year?
